Baby Face | 1926 | Nicole Hulett | Forgotten Favourites
“Baby Face“ Words and Music by Benny Davis and Harry Akst.
My Grandmother would sing this song to my brothers and I when we were young and it remains, to this day, one of my favorite fun, love songs.
“The Readers Digest Songbook of Popular Songs That Will Never Die“ says:
Harry Akst and Benny Davis collaborated on both the words and music of this 1926 Eddie Cantor hit. Akst toured in vaudeville with Nora Bayes, worked for Irving Berlin as a song demonstrator in the 1920s, and during World War II served as Al Jolson’s pianist in the Pacific. Davis toured the vaudeville circuit as accompanist for Blossom Seekey. His other big songs included “Margie”, “I’m Nobody’s Baby” and that great favourite “Goodbye Broadway, Hello France”. In a new disco version “Baby Face” became hit again in 1977.
