May Day (1914-1918)

May Day. Location of events unknown. Holidays. Group of young girls; between ages 8-12; come hopping / dancing toward camera (it looks quite funny, like Morris Dancing - SL). More children; adults; bare winter trees and large house in BG. Girls dance some more. Then the May Pole is carried out by a woman or older girl. Group of really little girls - these ones probably about 4-7 - walk out around the pole as it’s carried; hanging onto streamers and strings of roses. Children dance round Maypole as the older girl holds it. Someone is playing violin in background for the girls to dance to. (See also ON 186 L.) Recreation. Tradition.
