Peace Proclamation (1918)

Peace Proclamation. London. King’s representative (?) reads aloud a Peace Proclamation. Opens w/ Lord Mayor in full ceremonial costumes; walking out into street and standing in row. Next a procession of open coaches come up street; crowds on side of street; foggy day. CU a rather elderly man in another elaborate costume; with royal symbols standing up in a coach. Then some shots that jump around quickly - back view of one of these men mounting a horse. Front view of 3 horses; with men on them playing a fanfare on trumpets announcing royal proclamation. Then back to the shot of the man standing up in the carriage; he is now holding up a paper and reading aloud from it. As he finishes the announcement; he takes his jaunty hat off. CU same. Then he turns and sits. Lord Mayor etc. standing on street. Footage is quite dark and shows signs of decomposition. Tradition. Pomp; grandeur; ritual; royalty World War One, armistice.
