Heinz Present - The World In A Can Part 1 (1962)

Heinz promotional film. Lovely stuff - great colour, great music, nicely shot. Footage of Italian plum tomatoes being picked intercut with shots of the Heinz canning factory. Beans are harvested in Michigan, United States of America. Empty cans are seen on a conveyor belt. They are filled with beans. Over footage of man using knife to crack a coconut and workers crushing spices in the Caribbean Islands. More good footage of work in the Heinz factory. Silver skin onions from Holland are graded for size on a production line (all women workers on the onions!). Onions are weighed then tipped into large barrels. 57 varieties of cargo are sent from around the world to the Heinz food processing plant in Kitt Green, Lancashire. Footage of the pickled onions being pickled. Cut to short shot of Iraq where the dates come from. C/U of tins of Date Sponge Pudding being packed into a box.
