Harvest Time (1940-1949)

British Instructional Films Ltd presents a Classroom Film. Camera pans over a landscape of fields. Field of wheat in the foreground. Two men walk in a field, one has a large scythe. C/U of the man sharpening his scythe. “Opening the ways.“ He chops the crop down. C/U of the scythe cutting through the crop of wheat. The binder is shown in operation. A machine pulled by a tractor chops and binds the crop then throws it to the side. Combine harvester. Men stack the sheaves to dry. They stand them upright balancing against each other. The sheaves are lifted on to the back of a cart with a pitchfork. C/U of the horse which pulls the cart. Using an elevator, the sheaves are lifted on to the top of a haystack where men arrange them appropriately. The stacks are house-shaped.
