Western Front (1914-1918)

Western Front - France or Belgium? Teams of horses pull gun carriages through town square; with cobblestones; 2-storey white buildings stand round square; other soldiers; a few civilians incl. children in BG; young boy pushing wheel barrow walks past; with a friend French refugees walk on path. Men carry sacks; rifle. etc. CU a few cows walk past - then ECU of spotted Holstein passing! Great shots. Behind cows come French peasants; 2 women carrying sticks; man holding onto bull’s halter. Livestock. animals. Family group - grand parents & 3 small children; carrying various bags Pan area; craters in earth; black trunks sticking up; valley w group of French soldiers. Bombs bursting beyond ridge - BOOM - smoke Pan on bombed brick wall or trestle; train tracks - railroad tracks bent. Then pan on French soldiers; rebuilding; pile of boards to rt. Sign on what was railway platform: ’Noyon’ (50 miles NE of Paris). More refugees: CU 2 peasant women with shawls; long skirts; in front of ruins; in shock. S
