! ! ! BE WARN SPOILERS IN HEAD ! ! ! Upon returning to Ōetsu Nimaiya’s palace, the Asauchi which Ichigo chooses takes on the form of Zangetsu. Later, during the forging of Ichigo’s new Zanpakutō, Nimaiya reveals this happened because Zangetsu is Ichigo’s real Zanpakutō, for the inner Hollow inherited from his mother fused with his Shinigami powers and became his Zanpakutō. Ichigo senses both Zangetsu and the manifestation in his new Zanpakutō.
