Assange makes final bid to avoid extradition to U.S.

’위키리크스’ 줄리안 어산지, 英 법원서 美 송환 최종 결정 재판 개시 We begin today in London where WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is making a final appeal against his extradition to the U.S. Assange’s lawyers presented his case at Tuesday’s High Court hearing, arguing that the American government is seeking to punish him for exposing serious criminal acts committed by the U.S. state. His lawyer said that the extradition to the U.S. poses a risk, where Assange “will suffer a flagrant denial of justice”. Assange did not appear on the first day of his hearing due to illness. The WikiLeaks founder has been fighting extradition to the U.S. since 2010. If he fails to convince the court in the two-day hearing, Assange will have exhausted all appeals routes in the UK, and will be processed for extradition to the U.S. The 52-year-old spent seven years in self-exile at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London and has been in a UK high-security prison since 2019. He is wanted by the U.S. for disclosing sensitive military files in 2010 and 2011. #Julian_Assange #UnitedStates #WikiLeaks_founder #UK #United_Kingdom #court #Arirang_News #아리랑뉴스 📣 Facebook : 📣 Twitter : 📣 Homepage : 2024-02-21, 09:00 (KST)
