Three major environmental changes are known at the end of the Cretaceous: the Maastrichtian Regression, a major sea-level drop; the Deccan Traps, one of the largest volcanic episodes of the last quarter-billion years; and the Chicxulub Impact, the striking of an asteroid in the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico.
