Viking Coin Die - Shaking Hands With The Past: Episode 2

Join Helen the archaeologist and Jorund the Viking for a look at how money was made in Viking-Age York. Two iron coin dies, used in the striking of coins, were found at Jorvik in an area where iron working was going on. Three lead trial pieces for trying out other coin dies were also found. One of the trial pieces was for a penny of King Eadwig (), but the other pieces were all from the reign of Athelstan ().
