Eurovision 1999 Germany

Germany’s entry to the 1999 Eurovision Song Contest in Jerusalem, Israel. Sürpriz - “Reise nach Jerusalem“ Runner-ups in the German national final, Sürpriz got the ticket to Eurovision when the winner was disqualified. Thank goodness for that, for Eurovision 1999 would have been lesser without “Reise nach Jerusalem“. It’s a fiesta of Eastern ambiance combined with western dance, and the result is beautiful. It’s so extraordinarily catchy and loveable that it’s a wonder Germany didn’t win (though they did come close). If I may be partial, I would rather our Selma had been beaten by this song. In my eyes, it encapsulates the love and togetherness that Eurovision is all about.
