Johann Sebastian Bach - 3rd Suite for Violoncello in C-Major BWV 1009 | Katarzyna Myćka, Marimba

Live in Bangkok, Johann Sebastian Bach - 3rd Suite for Violoncello in C-Major BWV 1009 Why do we - marimba players perform Suites for Violoncello so often? Probably because Bach didn’t get a chance to see marimba during his life, his travels within Europe did not bring him to Guatemala, where these instruments gained importance and acclamation. Unfortunately he didn’t write anything for marimba! As famous Cellist Pablo Casals mentioned „Bach’s Cello Suites are essence of the music for violoncello and the essence of the music is Bach…“ - we can use this pure source for our musical journey. Fortunately the range of marimba and violoncello is similar, the pitch of the lowest string is same with the lowest bar - so we can adjust this collection of musical diamonds to our instrument, same as many other instrumentalists do.
