How Does an Escapement Actually Keep Time?

How do we go from escapement to clock? ••• First steps are to get the gear ratios figured out. The pendulum swings back and forth every second (1 second period). Since the escapement wheel has 30 teeth, this means is makes 2 full revolutions every minute. To get our seconds hand, we need a gear ratio of 2:1- the seconds hand rotates once for every 2 rotations of the escapement wheel, or once per minute. To get the minute hand, we need to add gears to get a ratio of 60:1. This means the seconds hand needs to turn 60 times for every full rotation of the minutes hand- this counts one hour. ••• You can get the files for this clock as part of the escapement Kickstarter: ••• #clockology #watchmaker #horology #geartalk #mechanicaldesign #mechanicalengineering #mechanicalengineer #3dprinting #3dprintedmodels #3dprintedclock #watchaddict
