Police storm Columbia campus and arrest Gaza protesters

Police officers in riot gear seized an occupied building at Columbia University and arrested dozens of protesters on Tuesday night. The Ivy League university in Manhattan has witnessed fierce demonstrations over the last week from pro-Palestinian supporters angered by the war in Gaza. Similar protests have hit campuses across America in a political headache for President Biden, who has been criticised by students for his support of Israel. Tensions escalated dramatically at Columbia on Tuesday night after the university said it was left with “no choice” but to call in the NYPD.
