China’s Xi arrives in Paris for talks with Macron

President Macron greeted President Xi in Paris on Monday. Issues over trade are expected to dominate the Chinese leader’s first visit to Europe for five years. Soon after Xi touched down in the French capital, Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission — who will take part in talks at the Élysée Palace on Monday — warned that relations between the bloc and Beijing were being “challenged” by trade issues such as market access. For his part, Xi said the European Union should remain “committed” to the partnership that already exists between China and the European Union.
