US CD V-715 Ion Chamber Radiological Survey Meter, this is not a Geiger counter but a lot of people confuse them for Geiger counters, these detect ionising radiation in the form of gamma and x-rays using an ion chamber. These do not tick or detect low levels of radiation, they were designed for if the Cold War went hot or if there was a major nuclear disaster.
