Foraging for mussels with a tour group along the Khwanyana Beach in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, Siyabonga Ndovela, from the NGO Igqangi project, became an unlikely hero.
As he was accompanying his guests on a peaceful walk exploring the seaside, a group ran up to Ndovela telling him that there were two dolphins stranded nearby. “I asked them why they are not taking them back to the sea? They said that they were scared of them”
The animals, Ndovela estimates, spent two hours out of the water. Without hesitation, Ndovela, began his attempts to save the dolphins, while another group tended to the second.
“I was very unhappy to see them outside the water and struggling to breathe and at that moment I recalled one of my worst days ever in my life. While I was swimming in the sea, I saw a big dark colour below me, in the water. It was a Shark.
