THE 1ST PRIEST CONVECTED OF SEXUAL ABUSE INSIDE VATICAN

VATICAN CITY Jan 23, In a recent development, a Vatican appeals court has convicted a priest of sexually abusing a fellow student during their time at a school for papal altar boys. The court partially overturned a 2021 first-instance ruling and sentenced Father Gabriele Martinelli to two and a half years in prison. This landmark case, which commenced four years ago, is the first in the Vatican to address sexual abuse that occurred on Vatican territory. In the original trial, Martinelli was found guilty of corrupting a minor and fined 1,000 euros in connection with events that transpired between 2008 and 2009. As of now, there has been no immediate comment from the convicted priest. The charges against Martinelli involved allegations of forcing an individual, identified only as LG, to engage in sexual activities over an extended period from 2007-2012. These incidents occurred while both were enrolled at the Saint Pius X Pre-Seminary, housing altar boys aspiring to become priests, serving Mass in St. Peter’s, including for the pope.
