NBC investigation finds Palestinians killed in areas designated as ’safe zones’ by Israeli military

NBC News investigated seven Israeli air strikes and found that Palestinians were killed in areas of southern Gaza specifically designated by the Israeli military as safe zones. According to the NBC report, Israeli forces targeted Rafah’s al-Zuhur neighbourhood, al-Shabura, and Tal al-Sultan, despite these areas being identified as safe zones on the military’s website map last updated in December. The Israeli military assured NBC that this information was still accurate despite the destruction of buildings in these areas. NBC repeatedly asked the Israeli military to comment on the documented strikes, providing precise locations and dates. In response to one of the attacks, the military stated that they were “not aware of any strike at the provided coordinates and times in the query.“ Sari Bashi, Human Rights Watch program director, told NBC that these strikes are not isolated incidents.
