Exclusive: Family member shares story of Palestinian woman killed by Israeli sniper
In an exclusive interview with MEE, Malak Anour al-Khattib, the niece of Hala Rashid Abd al-Ati, recounts the events of November 12, when her aunt was shot by Israeli forces in the centre of Gaza City. She details how the Israeli forces surrounded their neighbourhood, their departure from the house, and the moment her aunt was fatally shot.
Hala Rashid Abd al-Ati was killed by an Israeli sniper while her grandson, interlocked in her arms and waving a white flag, tried to flee to a “safe zone“ in the south of the embattled territory.
The family has since informed MEE that they buried Abd al-Ati near their home, expressing gratitude for this, as several unburied bodies remain on the streets, often trampled over by Israeli tanks and military vehicles or scavenged by stray dogs.
Abd al-Ati’s surviving family members, now dispersed across the war-torn Gaza Strip, explained to MEE that their decision to take that specific route out of Gaza City was made after multiple consultation
