A time travel to the battlefields of the Second World War in the Soviet Union. The German war of aggression against the Soviet Union enters its second year. After the devastating defeat in front of Moscow and the loss-ridden winter battle of 1941/1942, the summer offensive of the German Wehrmacht begins in June 1942 on an 800-kilometer-wide frontline between Kursk and the Sea of Azov. The German leadership prepares for a long war. The idea of defeating the Soviet Union within a few weeks has failed. At this time, a German soldier is filming with his private 8mm camera the daily life of Russian civilians at a market in an unknown place near Kursk. Shortly after, he and his unit are transferred. Rare footage shows the old Kursk train station, scenes on the platform with children in rags, and finally a battlefield which looks like a cemetery of destroyed tanks.
