Sony Says the PS5 Is Approaching the ’Latter Stage’ Of Its Life - IGN Daily Fix
In today’s Daily Fix:
Sony Senior VP Naomi Matsuoka has said the company expects sales of the PS5 to begin to slow, starting next fiscal year (which begins in April 2025, FYI). The PlayStation 4 was Sony’s primary console from 2013 to 2020, so if that current lifecycle trend holds up, we can probably expect the PS6 sometime in 2027, making 2024 the beginning of the “latter stage“ of the PS5’s life. In other Sony news, the company has basically admitted to a drought of first-party software for the PlayStation 5, saying that no new entries in any major first-party franchises are expected this year. They do still have solid third-party support, however. And finally, Sony has also said they are looking to cut costs in game development, citing massive budgets for some of their biggest titles, like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
