Mauna Loa Eruption Update; Lava Covers 13 6 Square Miles, Tall Lava Fountains

So far, lava flows from Mauna Loa’s eruptions have covered a total of 13.6 square miles or square kilometers of land. While the rate lava is erupting at has seemingly decreased in the past several days, fissure 3 continues to produce unusually tall lava fountains. Lava flows are still slowly creeping towards a major road on the Big Island, and could reach it within a week’s time.
