Twist Sends Italians (1962)

Titles read: “MILAN - TWIST SENDS ITALIANS“. Italy. Several shots of feet and legs as people do the twist at an Italian ’twist contest’. M/S of a young man doing the twist. People watching in a hall clap and shout. The police step in to control the audience at the front of the stage. Adriano Celentano, known as ’the emperor of the twist’ is pushed towards the stage. He starts singing ’The Peppermint Twist’ in Italian and doing some natty twist moves - go man! (Sequence is not natural sound.) Then 15-year-old Ann Neris, clad in lurex top and trousers plus beehive with plaits, twists on stage and sings (this one seems to be natural sound). Bespectacled and bearded man in the audience makes a face and puts his fingers in his mouth as if to say ’Mama Mia!’. Cataloguer’s note: Adriano Celentano was a massive heartthrob in Italy at this time who had several enormous hit records. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
