A group of African American women singing ’Negro Spirituals’ and wearing long white gowns wade out to a raft on the Potomac River. A choir is singing and a large crowd is watching. Just in front of the raft (which is decorated with the Stars and Stripes flag) the women are given a full body baptism. One of the women goes into some kind of spiritual rapture or fit upon being baptised.
N.B. According to the description in the book they may be members of an Adventist church.
