Thames Flood Barriers (1969)

No titles. Scale models assist in research of dock building and Thames Barrier. Various locations of events. At the British Transport Docks Research Station in Southall, Middlesex, we see various shots of scientists and engineers looking at large model of a coastal area to discover the best methods for building docks and what effect the sea will have on a structure. A scientist in a white coat looks at a graph coming out of a machine. Another puts small blocks against a tide coming in on another part of the machine. At Didcot, Oxfordshire, we see several shots of a working model of the River Thames, from Southend to Teddington, built to solve the flood problem. Model tanker ships move along the river and men lower a barrier across the flow at one point near Long Reach to prevent the surge of tide going through to London.
