Heroic US Marine Dog Awarded Animal Victoria Cross
A military dog who lost a leg while sniffing out a roadside bomb in 2012 has been awarded the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross after serving in more than 400 missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Lucca, a 12-year-old German Shepherd, was presented with the PDSA Dickin Medal at a ceremony at Wellington Barracks, London.
Thanks to her skills as a search and rescue dog, no lives were lost during her patrols. Lucca is the first US Marine Corps military working dog to be honoured with the Dickin Medal.
