Fitness Test- Glutes

Why are strong glutes important for Irish dancers? First and foremost strong glutes allow us to have the strength and speed needed for so many of our steps. Also having engaged glutes that are doing their job allows us the avoid relying on our lower back which can lead to pain and injury. Our muscle groups compensate when we have one area stronger than the other leaving us out of balance and sore after class! Glute activation practice should be completed after every warm up so when it comes to dancing they already know what they should be doing! Try these two fitness tests to see if you’re really engaging those glutes. Take a video or work with a friend at dance class as a way to track your progress.
