This video lesson covers the simulation steps of modeling an electromagnetic brake (EMB) with the help of Ansys Maxwell Eddy Current solver. The differences between the two solvers inside Maxwell — Magnetostatic solver and Eddy Current solver — are outlined in this video. The Magnetostatic solver assumes DC currents and permanent magnets as the source of excitation, while the Eddy Current solver assumes steady AC current as a source of excitation. This video shows the use of the Ansys Electronics Desktop (AEDT) field calculator to calculate the ohmic loss in various parts of the design. It also shows the force plot, magnetic flux density, and current density vector plot on the EMB model.
