Modeling the human brain using induced pluripotent stem cells iPSCs
Presented By:
Anjana Nityanandam, Ph.D
Speaker Biography:
Dr. Anjana Nityanandam is a developmental neurobiologist with expertise in human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). She completed her PhD in developmental neuroscience with Prof. Victor Tarabykin at The Max Planck institute for Experimental Medicine in Goettingen, Germany. She then moved to the Baldwin Lab at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA, for postdoctoral research. Here Dr. Nityanandam trained in reprogramming, handling and differentiating human iPSCs. Her experience in neurodevelopment and training in the rapidly progressing field of iPSC technology led her to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, five years ago. She was hired to build and establish a stem cell-based disease modeling lab with an emphasis on research and innovation and with the goal of supporting PI’s interested in creating and studying disease models using human iPSCs.
