Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to announce a federal initiative pertaining to innovation for economic growth in Canada in a speech in Montreal Sunday. The announcement follows a slew of other affordability initiatives unveiled by the Liberal government in the past week, ahead of the 2024 federal budget, and as opposition parties slowly gear up for the 2025 national election. Most recently, Trudeau announced a $600-million funding package on Friday aimed at accelerating homebuilding across Canada. As part of the package, the prime minister said $50 million would go toward a homebuilding technology and innovation fund. Other ministers in the Trudeau cabinet, including Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, make similar announcements on Sunday across the country.
