Restoring Cast Iron Pan Found from Dumpster

Оригинал видео: Все права на это видео принадлежат автору канала: I found this cast iron skillet from a dumpster and decided to restore it. It’s very rusty and it’s missing a handle so I need to make a new handle. Funnily enough it was the same dumpster I found the previous cast iron pan too. I started by cleaning all the burn stuff that was loose of first. It will be much nicer to laser clean when I don’t have to burn those off with the laser. Next Iaser cleaned the pan. More info about the devices you can find from: Next I sterilized the pan with isopropyl alcohol. Laser cleaning should clean everything off but since the cast surface is porous and there might be residues of motor oil or some other unhealthy oils fro mthe dumpster I decided to do this anyways. I drilled a hole to make the handle removable. The pan is so heavy I didn’t want to friction fit, especially since I will be heating and cooling it over and over again. Friction fitted handly would probably get loose really fast. I added a ciountersunk hole to make the screw sit flush with the cast iron for nicer look. Now the pan was ready to be seasoned. I used canola oil and did 5 coats. I wiped the pan with liberal amoubt of oil and then wiped off any excess oil. Nexi it was put into the oven for an hour to burn on each coat. I had my oven se to 230 degrees celcius. I took a piece of ash wood. It’s actually “leftover“ piece from my previous project where I made base for the air compressor. I lathed teh handle round first and then used a special technique to turn the other end of the handle oval. I off centered the other end of teh piece while turning. The other end stayed round. Oval handle is much more ergonomic, which is why hammers etc have oval handles too. The finished handle was treated with linseed oil and attached to teh pan with a screw.
