Sviatoslav Richter, 2 Rondo’s and Sonata , Beethoven Concertgebouw Amsterdam (1986)

This is what Richter played before the break: 1. Beethoven, Rondo in C major: I, Op. 51 2. Beethoven, Rondo in G major: II, Op. 51 3. Beethoven, Sonata No. 28, A major, Op. 101 For the music after the break, see: For decades this was the most fantastic concert I ever visited. Until I encountered Yuja Wang in 2016, playing Beethovens Hammerklavier sonata in Amsterdam. A Dutch national newspaper I read wrote quite appropriately ’Beethoven himself came by’. I remember well Richter coming on stage, walking acircle around the piano, sitting at his piano (his private Yamaha) and playing with a dusk lamp aside of him, more or less in the dark, the lamp illuminating the score in front of him. The record was taken from a radio broadcast of the recital on 2 July 1986.
