Various methods for identifying whether your ammo is steel core or not. The magnet test is not an accurate method. Pulling a bullet for inspection appears to be the most informative. You can often tell if it is steel core based upon the length of the projectile and by inspecting its base. Military surplus and much commerical ammunition is often steel case, not brass. Steel case should not be confused as steel core.
