WOW Founder and CEO Jude Kelly CBE sat down with Cate Blanchett and Nina Hoss to discuss their new film TÁR. They talk about how the film explores power: what it means to want it; what it means to wield it; and ultimately how easy it is to be corrupted by it. Set in the traditionally male-dominated world of classical music, their conversation takes in hierarchy, marriage and accountability for oneself and others. Todd Field’s film introduces us to Lydia Tár (Cate Blanchett), the groundbreaking conductor of a major German Orchestra. We meet her at the height of her career, as she’s preparing both a book launch and much-anticipated live performance of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. Over the ensuing weeks her life begins to unravel in a singularly modern way. The result is a searing examination of power, and its impact and durability in today’s society. WOW will be exploring all of these themes - and more - at the WOW Festival at Southbank Centre, which will take place 10-12 March.
