PREVENTABLE: PROTECTING OUR LARGEST ORGAN - DOCUMENTARY

Preventable: Protecting Our Largest Organ is a premier documentary showcasing the effects of Red Skin Syndrome, an iatrogenic condition brought on by the overprescription and abuse of topical steroids (or any medical steroid such as orals or injections). Red Skin Syndrome is a debilitating side-effect that can occur, as well as many other detrimental consequences if our medical community keeps readily using topical steroids as a chronic bandaid for our skin needs. The documentary showcases a wide range of information and aspects concerning Red Skin Syndrome and Topical Steroid Withdrawal, a term used to describe a patient’s cessation of topical steroid use. We embark on an emotional rollercoaster, diving into topics such as loss of self, relationship conflicts, and our lives being turned upside down all because of a drug that was supposed to be helping us, not hurting us. There is also a plethora of medical research, as well as interviews with well-regarded doctors such as Dr. Peter Lio, Dr. Xiu-Min Li, Dr. Koushik Lahiri, Dr. Kenji Sato, and Dr. Mototsugu Fukaya. From healed individuals to those still coping both physically and mentally, we hope to one day see a massive change in the way these drugs are prescribed by doctors all around the world. I am honored to have been able to circumnavigate the globe in order to create this project. I have met some wonderful human beings who have forged on in the face of darkness. Their fortitude is inspiring. Having completed this project on my own as well as having no formal background in film or documentarian work, it was a major undertaking filled with faith, ups and downs, and the motivation to keep going for the underdog.
