Photographs Can Be Iconic Storytellers These Are Worth A Thousand Words

Back when I was younger, the photographers (photojournalists) who worked for Life Magazine were known as the very best. Their job was to go out and tell stories using pictures and just a few words of text. Many of their photos became icons. I got the chance to make a documentary where I talked with the very best of them about the photos they were most proud of. War photographers. Hollywood photographers. Those who photograph teenagers. Animals. Ordinary extraordinary Americans. Civil rights. Presidents. They understood that to tell a story, a photograph had to be as some of them said, three-dimensional. That when you looked into the photo you would see more than just the photo itself. Today, with billions of photographs being snapped each year, to take a photograph that is iconic is a challenge, and those who achieve that status deserve applause.
