Check them out here: The British Expeditionary Force would be thrown back across the Channel by the relentless German blitzkrieg, culminating in the famed evacuation of Dunkirk. In the tense days that followed, the threat of invasion loomed large in the minds of Great Britain’s government, and steps were taken to raise a citizen militia capable of resisting a potential hostile landing by sea or air long enough for the nation’s beleaguered regular forces to mount a counter attack.
