Item title reads - When the earth trembled. Whole town ravaged by terrible series of earthquakes causing many deaths and $5 million damage. Santa Barbara, California, USA (.). L/S from an aeroplane as it flies over the destroyed buildings, with roofs off and windows out. L/S of the whole side of one building which has collapsed. Various shots of many wrecked buildings including a hotel. M/S as the camera pans across the side of a hotel, the wall has collapsed and we can see into the rooms which still have their beds and dressing tables, the camera pans down. M/S of a bed balanced on a piece of wood. M/S of men standing in the rubble, the camera pans across the collapsed buildings. Intertitle - ’All wires were destroyed and radio was used for first time for public services. (Note armed guard to prevent looting).’ M/S of a man sat at a table in the midst of the rubble, there is a radio next to him and he is wearing headphones. A man in a bow tie stands next to him and an armed guard patrols
