The Swinger (1927)

“Nothing to do with clubs - it’s a new electrically operated bridge at Beccles, near Lowestoft.“ L/S of the bridge. It turns as the Pathe camera approaches. The bridge is being filmed from a moving boat which has a small flag flying at the front. Point of view shot from on board the bridge as it moves. There are railway tracks on the bridge and they eventually meet up as the bridge moves into place. “Crossing the River Waveney, this bridge is 140 feet in length.“ Camera pans across showing the whole bridge. “Just a touch of a few levers and it swings its 300 tons across the river as lightly as a feather.“ C/U of the controls that operate the bridge (rather similar to those in used in railway signal boxes.) C/U of cogs moving. L/S of the bridge swinging round into place. L/S of steam train passing over the bridge. Was a Pathe Pictorial item - issue number unknown. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ.
