ConductIT Case Study: Jazz/Classical Crossover

Move! By Gwilym Simcock This study follows conductor Clark Rundell through an exciting project between a number of collaborators. Gwilym Simcock (and his jazz trio), Saxophonist Rob Buckland, The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and the RNCM Chamber Orchestra. The work Move! is a 3-movement piano concerto that started life as a new piece for a festival in London which has subsequently been updated. The study shows some early rehearsals, RNCM students playing alongside members of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and later being joined by Gwilym, Rob, and the trio. The purpose of this study is to show how students and professionals can be guided through a piece of music that is completely new to them, whilst at the same time being coached through the appropriate stylistic language needed to play Jazz in the context of this work.
