Visualizing COVID-19 Spikes in Action

The COVID-19 spike protein is responsible for the virus’ ability to bind to a human cell by hiding in a “closed” pose and transitioning to an infectious “open” pose. This interactive molecular dynamics visualization was made using NVIDIA Omniverse and NVIDIA RTX GPUs. Thank you to Folding@home for providing the data. A million citizen scientists donated time on their home computer so the Folding@home consortium could calculate the intricate movements of proteins inside the coronavirus.
