The typhoon hit central and western Japan with heavy rains and strong winds. Rushing rivers are about to burst their banks. The floors of houses and shops were damaged by water. Strong winds knocked down trees and electrical poles. Nearly 800 flights have been canceled. Tens of thousands of homes have lost power. Authorities issued flood and landslide warnings.
