WATCH: China defense minister meets with his Singaporean counterpart ahead of Asian security summit

Chinese Minister of National Defense Li Shangfu met with his Singaporean counterpart Ng Eng Hen in Singapore on Thursday (June 1) for talks, ahead of the upcoming Shangri-La Dialogue Asian security summit. Li and Ng attended a welcome ceremony before sitting down to a bilateral meeting where both ministers pledged to strengthen defense cooperation. The two then oversaw the signing of a memorandum of understanding on a secure defense telephone link between the two countries’ militaries. Li will be in attendance at this year’s Shangri-La Dialogue Asian security summit, which will be held from June 2-4. Li has declined to meet his U.S. counterpart Lloyd Austin, who is also attending the forum. Li has been under U.S. sanctions since 2018 over the purchase of combat aircraft and equipment from Russia’s main arms exporter, Rosoboronexport. __________________ ShanghaiEye focuses on producing top-quality contents.
