Slab Bust Ceramics Tutorial

TASK:  Human Figure as a Voice  (Skill Level: Beginner/Intermediate - learning to combine the pinch and slab techniques & working when the clay is fresh and also when it is leather hard.) Using a combination of slab and pinch techniques, students will create a vessel which utilizes the female figure as a voice to make a personal statement.       Starting Points and Reminders: • With the material provided explore the various ways a female body has been used by artists to communicate a message throughout time. • Choose a world issue / social comment that resonates with you • Follow the Creative Process Method • Be sure to: (Step 2 of your Creative Process) • Gather research material pertinent to your social comment. List at least 8 facts of your social comment • Brainstorm different ways to express this statement through the female figure in an ABSTRACT way ○ Consider the torso or the bust
