Defying convention has been the Mazda way since our inception as a Hiroshima-based cork processing company in 1920.
Since the production of our first car, the R360 in 1960, our innovative vehicles have displayed a steadfast commitment to pure Jinba Ittai driving pleasure.
Arguably our most famous contribution to powertrain engineering is the repeated use and continued development of the rotary engine - deployed to universal acclaim in the Mazda RX-7, to-date the world’s best-selling rotary-engined sports car.
In 1991, Mazda entered a rotary-powered racing car –the 787B – into the the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That car, wearing a now iconic RENOWN livery, went on to win the race. It was the first, and to-date only rotary-engined car to achieve such as accolade.
This film provides a selection of highlights of Mazda’s history of racing at Le Mans, to make 30 years since the historic 787B win.
