ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRY, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO (UCSF) AND DIRECTOR, UCSF HOEFT LABORATORY FOR EDUCATIONAL NEUROSCIENCE Dyslexia, learning differently, and innovation. Is there a link? A professor of child and adolescent psychiatry, Fumiko Hoeft’s current research program focuses on brain development, and brain mechanisms underlying skill acquisition such as language and reading, and educationally relevant concepts such as motivation, mindset, grit, and stereotype threat. She is particularly passionate about her research in dyslexia and autism. Hoeft trained in clinical medicine in Tokyo, Japan (Keio University) and received neuroscience research training at Harvard University; University of California, Los Angeles; and Stanford University. She has published more than 100 articles in journals such as Proceedings for the National Academy of Sciences and Journal of Neuroscience.
