Cor Serpentis (the sphere) is the only interlude that was completely composed before I ever tried learning it. The interplay between the pulsing bass and shifting melodies was greatly inspired by Derek Gripper’s incredible solo guitar transcriptions of Malian kora music which he first released on his 2012 album “One Night on Earth: Music from the Strings of Mali“. Although nowhere near the level of otherworldly magic he was able to achieve, Cor Serpentis (the sphere) was my attempt at channelling this approach to guitar within a nature/dark folk context.
