Dragon Boat Festival Feast: Use natural containers like leaves and bamboo to create delicious dishes

※Click “cc“ on the lower right menu to choose your subtitle language. In Yunnan cuisine, there is a category of dishes that need to be wrapped in natural containers. Zongzi leaves and bamboo shoot husks are used to wrap zongzi, banana leaves are used for roasted dishes, lotus leaves can be used for lotus leaf chicken and sticky rice, and bamboo tubes can be used to steam and roast all kinds of food. The amazing thing is that whatever is used to wrap the food imparts its flavor to it, enhancing the richness and deliciousness of the dishes! The day we had our meal, we were really lucky because there were flying ants everywhere. Actually, our family had postponed the meal for two days, but it was quite unfortunate that during the Dragon Boat Festival, there were flying ants every day. These insects are attracted to light and are quite common in the village during this season. Usually, when there are flying ants at home, we turn off all the lights. However, for filming, we couldn’t do that. I included a text warning in the video where the flying ants appear, so viewers can watch with caution. For us, flying ants are a good omen, indicating a bountiful harvest of wild mushrooms and plentiful rain. They are also edible insects. My family seemed quite happy about it. We’re used to seeing them, so we don’t find it uncomfortable. I also advised viewers in the video to skip this part if they don’t like it. Finally, I wish everyone happiness and safety every day!
