CANELO ALVAREZ (MEXICO) vs AUSTIN TROUT (CANADA) - BIG FIGHT

Welcome guys thanks for joining me again in this update. I hope you’re all well. So guys, The fight between Saul “Canelo“ Alvarez and Austin “No Doubt“ Trout took place on April 20th, 2013, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, USA. This bout was highly anticipated as it was a unification fight for the WBC and WBA light middleweight titles. Coming into the fight, Canelo Alvarez was an undefeated fighter with a record of 41-0-1, known for his power and technical skills. He was the reigning WBC light middleweight champion. Austin Trout was also undefeated, with a record of 26-0. He had recently scored a significant victory over Miguel Cotto, and this elevated his status in the boxing world. Trout held the WBA light middleweight title. Now at the beginning of Canelo’s fights, I usually like to watch how he approaches the first interactions. So how he eases into the fight. What you’ll notice is that he doesn’t really try to establish a foothold on the jab. Instead, he allows his opponent to throw a few jabs and he’ll always respond with a varied defensive approach. So he will catch or block, utilise a bit of slipping and also take an evasive step back. But this appears to be how he gets his opponents to overcommit ever so slightly with their jab so he can counter it. He will give the impression that he is defensive and could be hit if something extra is added to the previous attack; so more range or more speed and then if his opponent bites on this, he will surprise them with a sharp power jab. This is normally a good way of dealing with someone who believes they should impose their jab early, so a tall fighter (like in this case with trout) or a fast one. So you guys saw that sharp 1-2 combination that Canelo threw in the 7th that surprised and knocked down Trout. Sometimes it’s the simplest combination that can be the most effective and devastating. Try not to overcomplicate your boxing guys. Add variety but try not to look for complexity just for the sake of it. Anyway guys after watching this what do you think Canelo’s biggest changes have been in his style or method of boxing from this fight to our current day Canelo?
